Second Harvest Toronto is a food rescue and
redistribution charitable organization that strives to decrease hunger in the city of Toronto. Their organization is based
on the principle that fresh and prepared foods should not go to waste while in the same city people are going hungry. Beginning
tomorrow, Tuesday February 26th, they will be promoting LUNCH MONEY DAYS; an opportunity for Torontonians to give back. We
are all well aware of those less fortunate than ourselves, those who struggle to make it through the day with one full meal,
let alone three a day, we see them on the street corners each and every day. It doesn't have to be that way. If we all take
a look at our plates the next time we are at a luncheon date, we too can help make a difference.
Having said that, WonderMoms respectfully asks for your participation in helping
out Second Harvest Toronto with their latest endeavour.
Tuesday, at Yonge-Dundas Square in the heart of downtown, you can join celebrity chef Mark McEwan and a host of his generous
suppliers and vendors in purchasing your lunch for the day. All proceeds go directly to Second Harvest Toronto.
Wednesday is "Bunches of Lunches Day," choose between
the Calphalon Culinary Center where for a minimum $5.00 donation you can dine on a very healthy vegetarian pasta, a fresh
salad and fruit. Again, 100% of the proceeds go directly to Second Harvest.
Salad King, Toronto's favourite Thai restaurant will donate proceeds from both lunch and dinner to
Dufflet Pastries will donate
$1.00 for each Cowboy Cookie sold. They will continue this promotion for the balance of February. Yee-haw!!
On Thursday, be on the lookout for volunteers of Second Harvest
wearing chef hats and shaking cans in the PATH and in TTC subway stations across the city. At this time of year when the
weather is even more critical for survival, it is of utmost importance to collect as much as they can for the good people
Give what you can, a donation
of just $10.00 creates 20 healthy meals!! Volunteers will be collecting donations during the A.M. and P.M. rush hours, as
well as at select lunchtime locations throughout the city.
So, if you truly "give a shiitake" about hunger in and around your great city you know what to do.
"Lettuce give" to support Second Harvest's food rescue and delivery program. It is through the support of all
involved, they can make sure that adults, children and seniors in the city of Toronto don' ever have to go hungry.
And to sweeten the pot, if you plan on attending the luncheon
festivities in downtown TO, be sure to have your smartphone on hand. Simply "tweet" a photo of your lunch to @2ndHarvestTO with the hashtag #lunchmoneydays, and you could be
