It's Time for Outdoor Play with Neighbourhood Toy Stores

I am forever trying to keep the little ones occupied and active. It seems less of a battle when the weather outside cooperates and allows for after dinner walks and treks to the park. The kids will play tag, soccer, baseball, volleyball and/or ride their bikes. All designed to tucker them out for bath and shower time and early to bed. We all know how much work it takes to get them in the house at the end of a busy and fun filled day, let alone, get them into the shower.

The more you have to entertain and occupy their time with, the easier it will be for you as a parent. Children needs stimulation, and what better way to get that, than with some new items for them to enjoy and try out.

According to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario, an organization very near and dear to my heart, says that children need a minimum of 60 minutes of moderate to energetic activity a day to grow and develop as they should. Outdoor play is a terrific way for them to indirectly develop skills and get the exercise that promotes better learning and healthy sleeping patterns.

With that in mind, I am always cognizant of the kids whereabouts and what it is that occupies their time while outdoors. That is why I am always on the lookout for that next great toy at the local neighbourhood toy store. They tend to offer better quality, better built, better designed toys. I, for one, do not mind paying a little more for something that lasts longer.

A couple of toys from the past have come back with a new twist, the Boing Pogo Stick. Seems simple enough, simply jump on and continue up and down the driveway. And yes, "there is an app for that." The Boing Pogo Stick app for iphone allows it to become a friendly competition, while recording the number of bounces and will even record and save your high scores. A rivalry in the making between the kids. I love that one.

Or how about something for the whole family to enjoy while outside. The Walkaroo Stilts will assist in the development of balance and coordination while offering a healthy workout. Forget about the old wooden 2x2 construction we used to use as kids. These are fully adjustable steel construction for kids from 4'6" to 6'6" and will carry up to 210 lbs.

And lets not forget about the smaller ones, they are just as important while outdoors. The toys I like for them are usually ride on toys where they are propelled by the movement of feet on the ground. How about the John Deere Get Around Gator riding car? It provides hours of playtime with the dual functioning doors, clicking key and working horn. All this while getting them the exercise and workout they need to stay fit all summer long.

As I have said before, summer is my favourite time of year and I so enjoy watching over them with a good book in hand or cold beverage, whichever suits the mood. Take the time to plan through your days once the kids are out of school. That five minutes of planning is worth hours of peace and quiet while they entertain one and other in the yard. Take the time to visit your local neighbourhood toy store.

And above all, have a safe and prosperous summer with the little ones.
